A Bangladeshi construction worker fell 20 storeys to his death while working at a condominium in Katong.
SINGAPORE: A construction worker fell 20 storeys to his death while at work on Thursday morning, prompting the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to order all work to be stopped at the construction site in Katong.
The incident occurred at a condominium construction site along Amber Road.
Police said they received a call at 9:57am.
The victim, a Bangladeshi in his 20s, was working for a subcontractor.
MOM's preliminary investigations showed that the victim was doing work on a balcony at the 20th storey just before the incident.
The workers at the site are building four 21-storey high condominium blocks, which are expected to be completed at the end of next year.
“I was doing my work upstairs when I heard a loud thud. I saw a scaffold and a person falling at the same time. When I looked down, he was already dead,” said a worker.
Both the police and MOM are investigating the incident, with the police having classified the case as unnatural death.
