Book on religious, community groups in Geylang Serai launched

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has launched a coffee table book on Saturday which highlights the history, evolution and practices of the religious and community organisations in Geylang Serai.

SINGAPORE: Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong has launched a coffee table book on Saturday which highlights the history, evolution and practices of the religious and community organisations in Geylang Serai.

The "Vibrant Geylang Serai: Heritage in Harmony" book was launched as part of the "Heritage in Harmony" seminar and exhibition organised by the Geylang Serai Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC).

Geylang Serai has a diverse ethnic population and is home to more than 100 religious organisations and clan associations.

The book also documents a rich collection of stories and anecdotes, compiled by the IRCC and grassroots leaders from the area.

Adviser for Geylang Serai IRCC and MP for Marine Parade, Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef, said: "At Geylang Serai, while we have groups of people with different beliefs and cultural practices, it is heartening to see strong community efforts in place to maintain religious and racial harmony.

“This is something which we treasure and hope to strengthen, so that it continuously grows as a part of the distinct characteristic of our constituency."

Mr Goh also launched the "Heritage in Harmony" exhibition, which showcased religious and cultural artefacts from the religious organisations in Geylang Serai.
