The Land Transport Authority released more details of the new station on the North-South Line, including the exact location and the start date for construction.
SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Friday (Aug 1) released more details of the upcoming Canberra station, including its expected completion date.
Works on the new addition to the North-South Line will commence in mid-2015, and is expected to be completed in 2019, LTA said in its statement. It is the second MRT station - after Dover station on the East-West Line - to be built on an existing rail line, which means work hours and space are limited for construction activities, it added.
It will be located between Sembawang and Yishun MRT stations along Canberra Link, and will be designed with five entrances linking to the new housing estates across Canberra Link.
With this direct connection to the MRT network, residents travelling towards the city centre or Jurong East will enjoy time savings of up to 10 minutes, the LTA said.
