Casey Kasem, American Top 40 icon, dies at 82

Popular radio personality Casey Kasem, the father of MediaCorp's Class 95FM DJ Mike Kasem, died on Sunday (15 June), aged 82.

SINGAPORE: Popular radio personality Casey Kasem, the father of MediaCorp's Class 95FM DJ Mike Kasem, died on Sunday (15 June).

He was 82.

Casey Kasem, best known for being the host of the American Top 40 and the television voice of Shaggy on "Scooby-Doo", suffered from Lewy body dementia, the Daily Mail reported.

He is survived by his second wife, Jean, and four children -- Mike, Julie, Kerri and Liberty.

"Early this Father's Day morning, our dad Casey Kasem passed away surrounded by family and friends," Kerri Kasem wrote on her Facebook page.

"Even though we know he is in a better place and no longer suffering, we are heartbroken.

"Thank you for all your love, support and prayers.

"The world will miss Casey Kasem, an incredible talent and humanitarian; we will miss our Dad. With love, Kerri, Mike and Julie."
