SINGAPORE: Celebrity chef and restaurateur Marco Pierre White is opening a restaurant in Singapore - and it will be named The Old English House.
The 55-year-old British TV personality announced this on Monday evening (Nov 21), at a press conference for Masterchef Dining and Bar Singapore, which will be held from Nov 25 to Dec 9. He is among five celebrity chefs who are headlining the event.
However, White remained tight-lipped about the details of the restaurant, except that "everything will be brought from England".
The restaurant's design will draw upon the chef's English background. Its interior will be inspired by the Victorian to Georgian eras, through the English ages, he told Channel NewsAsia.
As to the location of the restaurant, he added that he is currently looking at the Robertson Quay area, where his target market is.
White is known for his intimidating presence and frank comments on the Masterchef competition series. At the age of 33, he became the world's youngest chef to be awarded three Michelin stars.
Among his proteges is celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, who opened Bread Street Kitchen at Singapore's Marina Bay Sands last year. The two reportedly have an icy relationship, with White saying in an interview in 2006 that he would never speak to Ramsay again.
