Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing will represent Singapore at the 10th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting in Brunei on Wednesday.
SINGAPORE: Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing will represent Singapore at the 10th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting in Brunei on Wednesday.
The Socio-Cultural Community Council is one of three ASEAN Community Councils -- the others are the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council and ASEAN Economic Community Council.
The scope of the Socio-Cultural Community Council's work includes the environment, disaster management, education, information, culture, health, sports, youth, women, children, manpower, rural development, poverty eradication, social welfare and civil service training matters.
The meeting will seek to support the recommendations of the Ministerial Steering Committee on Transboundary Haze Pollution to adopt the ASEAN Sub Regional Haze Monitoring System for endorsement by ASEAN Leaders.
A ministry statement said the meeting will also look at issues such as the elimination of violence against women and children, strengthening social protection, and enhancing cooperation in disaster management.
