From Aug 1, lifelong scheme will replace current system in which they have to renew licences every one to three years, the Energy Market Authority announced.
SINGAPORE: From Aug 1, electrical, gas and cable detection workers can apply for a lifetime license from the Energy Market Authority (EMA), rather than have to renew their licence every one to three years.
"This move will help to save time and reduce compliance costs for more than 5,000 workers," the EMA said in a press statement announcing the Lifetime Licensing Scheme on Tuesday (July 1).
Electrical, gas and cable detection workers currently have to renew their licenses every one to three years. The introduction of the lifetime licence could save a worker up to S$30 a year, the agency said. Existing licensed workers will be converted to the lifetime licence when their current licences expire.
The EMA said that the introduction of the lifetime licence is part of an ongoing review to enhance rules and licensing requirements to reduce compliance costs for businesses and consumers. The agency invites industry players and the public to submit their feedback and suggestions to EMA_Enquiry@ema.gov.sg.
