SINGAPORE: The sports fraternity on Monday submitted forms to put forward Dr Ben Tan as a potential Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) candidate.
Dr Tan, a former national sailor, was nominated by the vice-president of the Singapore National Olympic Council and chair of the International Olympic Committee’s finance commission Ng Ser Miang.
The second nominator was Jessie Phua, president of Singapore Bowling Federation.
Dr Tan said he would not have nominated himself if Mr Ng had not approached him, as it was not in his nature.
He added that if he is an NMP, he would want to address pride to the nation, character development, strengthen the sports industry and encourage physical activity.
Previously, Dr Tan said that he recognises the need to build on what current NMP Nicholas Fang and NMPs before him have done in representing the views of the sports community in Parliament.
