Ex-US Deputy Secretary of Treasury in S’pore as LKY Exchange Fellow

Former US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Neal S Wolin, is in Singapore for a four-day visit until Friday as the 41st Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow.
SINGAPORE: Former US Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, Mr Neal S Wolin, is in Singapore for a four-day visit until Friday as the 41st Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mr Wolin called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Foreign Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam.
Mr Wolin was also hosted to lunch by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
A Foreign Affairs Ministry statement said Mr Wolin had good exchanges during the meetings with Mr Lee, Mr Tharman and Mr Shanmugam.
Discussions were wide-ranging and covered topics such as domestic developments in the US and the global economic and financial outlook.
They also noted the strong US-Singapore relationship and the close financial cooperation.
Mr Wolin will call on Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang on Thursday and meet with managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) Ravi Menon and senior management of the MAS on Wednesday.
He will also be speaking at a closed-door session on the medium-term growth prospects for the US economy at the Singapore Management University.
Established in 1991, the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship programme invites outstanding individuals for high-level exchange visits to Singapore.
The fellows are chosen on the basis of their proven track records or extraordinary potential to contribute to the development of their nations, as well as to promote international understanding and goodwill.
Mr Wolin is the longest-serving deputy secretary in the US Department of the Treasury's history, having served from May 2009 to August 2013.
He was the Acting Secretary of the Treasury from mid-January to late February 2013, pending Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew's confirmation.
Prior to joining the Department of the Treasury in 1995, Mr Wolin was Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Counsel to the President for Economic Policy.
