F1 road closures to take place over six days: LTA

Affected roads will be closed from Sep 17 at 12.01am and will be progressively reopened when the race is completed. All roads will be fully accessible by Sep 23 at 5.30am.

SINGAPORE: Road closures for the upcoming 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix will take place between Wednesday (Sep 17) and the following Tuesday (Sep 23). This is down from the 12 days of closures when the race was first held in 2008, the Land Transport Authority said.

Specifically, affected roads will be closed from Sep 17 at 12.01am and will be progressively reopened when the race is completed. All roads will be fully accessible by Sep 23 at 5.30am. The F1 race will take place from Sep 19 to 21.

The reduction in road closure days was because race organisers made arrangements to open more roads earlier after the race, to facilitate better traffic access, said the LTA. Taxis will also be allowed better access to the Marina Centre area. Public transport operating hours will be extended further so race-goers can use the MRT.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

Operating hours of MRT train services will be extended to cope with the higher demand on race days. Operating hours for selected feeder bus services will also be extended to match the last train services.
