Family life educators will get more funding and training as part of a suite of initiatives to strengthen the sector.
SINGAPORE: The family life education (FLE) sector in Singapore will be getting a boost.
A suite of initiatives, including more training platforms and funding schemes to strengthen the FLE sector, was announced at the inaugural Family Life Education Conference on Thursday by Parliamentary Secretary for Social and Family Development Low Yen Ling.
The conference was attended by over 300 family life education practitioners, trainers and volunteers, with a focus on programmes for parenting.
One of the programmes is the Foundation Course in Family Life Education, which will provide participants with the skills needed to facilitate FLE workshops.
Ms Low said: "The foundation course is targeted at grooming and developing more family life education facilitators -- so after they graduate from the 45-hour course, they will be well placed to facilitate family life education workshops with an educator.
"Other than focusing on the content -- which includes marriage, parenthood, child-development, and work-life balance -- another component will include soft-skills.”
