Fire breaks out at Sungei Kadut factory

A fire broke out at a factory at 14 Sungei Kadut Street 6 on Sunday (Aug 17) at about 10am. Two victims were sent to the hospital with burn injuries, but the fire was brought under control within an hour.

SINGAPORE: A fire broke out at Beng Huat Construction Furnishing Pte Ltd at Sungei Kadut on Sunday (Aug 17) at about 10am. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it arrived at the scene within six minutes.

Two fire engines, four red rhinos and an Unmanned Firefighting Machine were deployed to the single-storey factory at 14 Sungei Kadut Street 6. Five other supporting vehicles and two ambulances were also sent to the location.

SCDF said the fire was burning through the zinc roof when it arrived and the roof fully collapsed eventually. The fire involved wood and metal products and the affected area is approximately 80 by 80 metres. About 50 SCDF staff were involved in the firefighting operation.

SCDF said two male casualties sustained burnt injuries and have been sent to Singapore General Hospital. The fire was fully extinguished at about 1.00pm. According to SCDF, a charred body was found during their search operation and police are investigating the unnatural death.
