Police arrest five men for rioting at Bras Basah Road last month.

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested five men for rioting at Bras Basah Road in the early hours of January 31, 2014.

In a statement on Thursday, police said they received a call at about 4.45am, alerting them to a fight at a walkway along Bras Basah Road.

Police and Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedics responded to the incident.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the patrons of a club at Bras Basah Road were assaulted.

Three of the victims sustained facial injuries and were sent to hospital.

Police said they carried out extensive investigations round the clock, leading to the arrest of the five suspects on Wednesday.

Three of the suspects will be charged in court on Friday with rioting armed with a deadly weapon.

Police will also seek a court order to remand the trio for further investigations.

If found guilty, the trio faces a jail term of up to 10 years and caning.

Investigations against the remaining two subjects are ongoing.
