Friends, artistes and relatives pay respects to Kartina Dahari

Hundreds of friends, fellow artistes and relatives paid their respects to the late queen of keroncong, Kartina Dahari, on Thursday.

SINGAPORE: Hundreds of friends, fellow artistes and relatives paid their respects to the late queen of keroncong, Kartina Dahari, on Thursday.

Her body was laid to rest just before noon.

The Malay music icon died on Wednesday evening after battling ovarian cancer for three years.

She was 73 years old.

Her coffin was brought to the Baalwie Mosque in Bukit Timah for final prayers.

Fellow artistes and friends described her as a unique singer with an extraordinary voice.

Iskandar Jalil, master potter and Ms Kartina’s friend, said: "What she has done is she has found an identity of Malay music... many Malays don't understand keroncong. But she has done very well."
