Horse Racing: Spalato storms to victory in Emirates Singapore Derby

A horse named Spalato stormed to victory in the Emirates Singapore Derby on Sunday. Ridden by jockey Manoel Nunes, Spalato edged out runner-up Stepitup, while Magical Talent finished third.

SINGAPORE: A horse named Spalato stormed to victory in the Emirates Singapore Derby on Sunday (July 13).

Ridden by jockey Manoel Nunes, Spalato edged out runner-up Stepitup, while Magical Talent finished in third place.

More than 400 guests were at the Singapore Racecourse at Kranji for the 19th edition of the Emirates Singapore Derby.

With S$1.15 million offered in prize money, it is also the second richest domestic race in Singapore.

This year, Emirates helped raise more than S$42,000 for four voluntary welfare organisations (VWOs) under the care of the Community Chest.

The VWOs are Whispering Hearts Family Service Centre, St Andrew's Mission Hospital (St Andrew's Autism School), Alzheimer's Disease Association (New Horizon, Toa Payoh) and the Society for the Physically Disabled (SPD Therapy Hub).

Fundraising activities included the pre-sale of donation tables as well as outright donations by guests at the event.
