The Health Promotion Board (HPB) will partner with taxi operator Comfort DelGro to offer a 10-month health screening and intervention programme customised to each driver's health conditions.
SINGAPORE: The Health Promotion Board (HPB) on Tuesday (June 24) announced that it would partner with Comfort DelGro to bring a healthcare and screening programme to the latter's pool of taxi drivers.
In a joint statement, the two parties said the 10-month "One for One: Check Car, Check Body" scheme will provide the drivers with an initial health screening, followed by a seven-month health counselling and coaching programme customised to each individual's health conditions.
To make it more convenient, the programme will be rolled out at the Comfort DelGro Taxi Service Centre so drivers can participate in the initiative while waiting for their cars to be serviced at the workshop, the statement said.
By educating the taxi drivers on their health status, they can then take simple and manageable steps to stay healthy once the programme ends, it added.
"Mature workers are an integral part of our workforce. It is important to help them remain healthy so that they can continue to work if they want to. However, many mature workers have difficulties finding time to participate in health programmes," said Senior Minister of State for Health Dr Amy Khor.
"We are starting first with the taxi drivers, as many of them are mature workers, and we intend to expand such programmes to more sectors."
