SINGAPORE: India's Chief of Army Staff General Bikram Singh called on Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen at the ministry on Tuesday.

General Singh is in Singapore on an introductory visit from January 21 to 23.

A ministry statement said the visit underscores the warm and long-standing defence relationship between Singapore and India.

Earlier on Tuesday, General Singh met Chief of Army Major-General Ravinder Singh after inspecting a guard of honour.

While in Singapore, he will also visit the Multi-Mission Range Complex, Headquarters (HQ) 3rd Division and HQ Armour.

The statement said the armies of the two countries regularly conduct bilateral armour and artillery exercises together.

In March, the two armies will conduct an armour exercise at Babina Field Firing Range in India.

Both armies also interact regularly through professional exchanges, visits and cross-attendance of courses.

The ministry said these interactions provide the Singapore army with a valuable opportunity to train alongside its Indian counterpart.

The interactions also enhance mutual understanding and inter-operability between the armed forces of both countries.
