SINGAPORE: Mediacorp artiste Joanne Peh announced on Thursday (Oct 27) that she is expecting her second child with husband Qi Yuwu, and both are excited and happy despite it being an unplanned pregnancy.
The celebrity couple welcomed their first child, a girl, on Aug 7 last year.
The actress, who discovered she was pregnant before filming for Dream Coder began, told Toggle that she was excited about being pregnant again.
“I’m very excited! I’m just over the first trimester and it’s still too early to tell (the gender of the baby),” she said, but added that she hoped it would be another girl.
“I had nausea at night and I didn’t have a very good appetite. I don’t really want to eat but I’d still eat when it’s meal time and take in some food.”
The pregnancy was unplanned and unexpected, but both she and Qi are happy about it, Peh told Toggle. “Of course he’s very happy, he found it hard to believe too.”
Qi has been based in China for the past two years, but has signed a new contract with Mediacorp’s The Celebrity Agency as a full-time artiste. With the new contract, he will be taking on more local projects which will allow him to spend more time with his pregnant wife, the report said.
In order to spend more time with her during her first trimester, he extended his stay in Singapore for a month and cooked nourishing soups to help boost her poor appetite, Peh said. “When he first found out and had to return to China, he was in a fix; he was worried but he has to film, and he is scared that I’m too tired and can’t sleep well.”
According to Toggle, Peh informed the executive producer and director of Dream Coder about her pregnancy, and minor amendments were made to her role and several scenes.
Peh, who went on a hiatus from work during her first pregnancy, said she has no plans to stop work this time round. “People usually say that parents are more relaxed with the second pregnancy. I hope to continue to work if possible, but I don’t have anything lined up yet after this drama so we’ll wait and see.”
