A total of 450 birds at the park’s Flamingo Lake exhibit underwent the procedure.
SINGAPORE: Jurong Bird Park held its annual flamingo vaccination on Thursday (June 19), a nine-hour operation involving 23 personnel, including three vets, who physically caught each of the 450 birds to perform health checks and administer a vaccine against the H5N1 avian flu virus.
Every bird of the two flamingo species at the park’s Flamingo Lake exhibit – the lesser flamingo and the greater flamingo – underwent the procedure.
The birds were also showered with anti-mite spray and had their full wings clipped, and those found untagged were tagged, the park said.
