SINGAPORE: From October 1, all HDB and landed households in the Jurong, Clementi and City sectors will pay the same fee as that paid by residents in the Pasir-Ris-Tampines and Bedok sectors.
HDB households will pay S$7.49 per month, and landed households S$24.81 per month. The fees are inclusive of GST.
The new fees translate to an average increase of S$2.46 for HDB households for the three sectors, and S$5.77 for landed households.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) says the cost of waste collection has risen since the fees in these three sectors were last set in 2006 due to higher fuel prices and manpower cost.
The uniform fee scheme was first launched in the Pasir Ris-Tampines and Bedok sectors in July 2012.
Under the scheme, households pay the same fees for the same tier of waste collection services to facilitate the consolidation of the Public Waste Collection (PWC) sectors from nine to six sectors.
The consolidation also allows the PWC industry to realise efficiency gains and mitigate rising costs in labour and fuel, as well as raise standards and productivity.
NEA says the next uniform fee review is scheduled in January 2015.
This will also be when the remaining sectors of Ang Mo Kio-Toa Payoh, Hougang-Punggol, Woodlands-Yishun, and Tanglin-Bukit Merah are brought onto the uniform fee scheme.
All households in Singapore will then pay the same uniform fee for the same tier of service.
Subsequently, NEA will review the uniform fee every two years.
