Labour Movement launches S$500,000 fund to help firms go family-friendly

50 firms will be granted S$10,000 each to build a more family-friendly environment at the workplace, NTUC announces.

SINGAPORE: The Labour Movement on Friday (July 4) rolled out the U Flex Family-Friendly Grant worth a total of S$500,000, with funding support from the Government.

In a statement, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) said the grant - first announced at its May Day Family Fiesta this year - would see 50 companies given S$10,000 each to encourage them to put in place a more family-friendly workplace environment by offering other forms of support, such as Family Care Leave (FCL) for family members who are dependents, or Family Support Schemes (FSS) such as childcare or elderly care subsidies, or the provision of breastfeeding spaces.

Firms can apply for the grant from Aug 1.

The new grant will complement the existing WorkPro, NTUC said. All companies that have benefited from the Work-Life Grant under WorkPro and have implemented some form of flexible work arrangements will be eligible to apply for the U Flex Grant.

“With this funding from the Government, we hope to encourage enlightened companies who have already put in place some form of flexible work arrangements to continue to do more to attract working caregivers to return and remain in the workplace. This pilot project will help more companies work towards creating a holistic working environment that is ideal for working caregivers to manage their responsibilities both at work and at home,” said NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Cham Hui Fong.
