SINGAPORE: A team of former Liverpool players will face off against several of Singapore’s football heroes, in an 11-a-side match at Jalan Besar Stadium on Nov 15.

The team, which will include Steve McManaman, Michael Thomas, Phil Babb, Steve Harkness, Robbie Fowler, Stephane Henchoz, Vladimir Smicer and Patrik Berger, will return to defend their title from the Masters Cup last year, Masters Football Asia and Castlewood Group on Tuesday (July 22).

Singapore’s team includes local household names such as Fandi Ahmad, V Sundramoorthy, Malek Awab, Lim Tong Hai and Alexander Duric.

Said striker Robbie Fowler, who was capped 26 times for England: “I’ve played here on a few occasions and Singaporeans never cease to amaze me with their passion and knowledge of the English Premier League and Liverpool FC. The fans make me feel so welcome and it really pleases me to be able to play with my fellow Reds against Singapore football heroes.

"I cannot wait to return to one of my favourite cities in Asia.”

Added Castlewood Group CEO Chris Comer: “Coming from Liverpool myself, it will be a dream come true to witness the legends of my home team play against the legends of my new home, Singapore.

"As Singapore goes from strength-to-strength as a global sporting hub, we hope to see more businesses give back to the local community through sporting ventures such as this, giving the supporters here a chance to get up close and personal with their stars."

Tickets to the match on Nov 15 start from S$10 and can be purchased here now, or at all Ticketbooth outlets from noon on Wednesday, July 23. Ticket holders who purchase their tickets online before Nov 11 may win a chance to meet the Liverpool legends when they arrive in Singapore.
