The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a two-year contract worth S$3.4 million to Aedge Holdings to operate three City Direct services.
SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded a two-year contract worth S$3.4 million to Aedge Holdings to operate three City Direct services.
There will be a service each for Hougang, Bedok and Eunos -- connecting the housing estates to the Central Business District (CBD).
An LTA statement said the new bus services will be launched progressively in the third quarter of 2014.
Each bus service will make two one-way trips on weekday mornings from the housing estate to the CBD, and two one-way return trips in the evenings.
With limited stops and the use of expressways, journey times are expected to be comparable to that of taking a feeder bus or LRT and transferring to the MRT into the city.
LTA said more trips may be added, depending on the demand for the services.
The bus services will operate during weekday peak periods, excluding public holidays. Further details will be announced closer to the implementation dates.
The City Direct bus services are being rolled out as part of the government's bus service enhancement programme.
It is also in line with the Transport Ministry's announcement last year to tap on the resources of private bus operators to augment those of public transport operators.
