According to Ippy the scarlet macaw, Sebastian Vettel will pass the chequered flag first at the Marina Bay street circuit for a third consecutive time.
SINGAPORE: He is used to pecking rather than picking but Ippy the scarlet macaw was more than happy to choose a winner for this weekend's Formula One Singapore Grand Prix.
As part of Jurong Bird Park's efforts to get in on the buzz surrounding the highly-anticipated night race, Ippy was directed by his trainer to randomly choose from five figurines, each representing a Formula One driver.
According to the 15-year-old bird, Sebastian Vettel will pass the chequered flag first at the Marina Bay street circuit for a third consecutive time.
His trainer at the Jurong Bird Park, Eileen Lim, said Ippy isn't a massive Red Bull fan. The trainers have simply trained him to display his natural instincts on command.
"Just like how we train the birds here in the bird park, we work them on a positive reinforcement basis. First, we introduce them to the objects that we want them to pick up, it may be a small nut or a fruit or in this case, the F1 drivers.
"Whenever they do it right, whenever they pick it up, we give them a treat in the form of their favourite fruit or a command of voice by praising him," said Lim.
