Madonna concert in Singapore may be called off

A check of the singer’s concert schedule on her official website, which had earlier indicated that Madonna would be performing in Singapore on Feb 28, found that the tour date had been removed.

SINGAPORE: Pop icon Madonna may not be coming to Singapore after all.

A check on Thursday (Dec 17) of the singer’s concert schedule on her official website, which had earlier indicated that Madonna would be performing in Singapore on Feb 28, found that the tour date had been removed.

The website had also stated that online sales of tickets would begin on Thursday. The link led to a page to buy an Icon Live Pass, which included membership to Madonna's official fan club Icon and allowed fans to purchase pre-sale tickets and VIP packages. The link has since been removed.

On Thursday, the fan club sent out an email to fans saying that the information on her concert details was “inaccurate”.

“If you have purchased an Icon Live Pass for this pre-sale offer, we will automatically refund your order,” it said. “Thank you for your support of Madonna, and we will endeavor to improve our service to avoid such errors in the future.”

Responding to queries from Channel NewsAsia, a representative from the official website said the presale tickets for the Singapore show has been "cancelled".

"Once Madonna's Singapore concert details are finalised, all members will be sent an announcement with the proper on-sale schedule information," the spokesperson added.

Police told Channel NewsAsia that an application for a public entertainment licence to stage Madonna's concert has been received, but is currently still being assessed.

Organiser IMC Live Group has declined to comment.
