Malaysia Cup: LionsXII draw 2-2 against Johor Darul Takzim II

There were early and late goals by the LionsXII in a match against Johor Darul Takzim II at the Jalan Besar Stadium. However, the Lions will not progress beyond the group stages.

SINGAPORE: The LionsXII faced Johor Darul Takzim II (JDT II) again on Tuesday evening (Aug 26), this time on home ground at the Jalan Besar Stadium.

Eager to redeem themselves after last Saturday's defeat, the Lions struck fast and hard, with midfielder Hafiz Sujad scoring just 35 seconds after kickoff – his second goal against JDT II in as many games.

However, JDT II responded with a 10th-minute equaliser, with midfielder Yusof Abidin quickly converting a cross from Azinee Taib.

A 66th-minute header by substitute Akmal Ishak gave JDT II the lead. Despite substitute Faris Ramli's late equaliser in the 84th minute, it was too little, too late for the Lions.

The final score - a 2-2 draw, with the Lions effectively out of the Malaysia Cup competition. They will continue to face FELDA United and Pahang, but will not progress beyond the group stages.
