When police tried to stop him, the man reversed the lorry and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 51-year-old man suspected of stealing a lorry along Kampong Ampat in the MacPherson area.
Police said in a news release on Wednesday (Aug 27) that the theft was reported at about 10.40am on August 15. Officers came across the stolen lorry parked along Lor 1 Toa Payoh and obstructing traffic at about 12.42pm that same afternoon.
When approached by police, the suspect who was in the lorry, attempted to reverse the vehicle and collided with another lorry. He then got out of the lorry and ran away. Officers gave chase, but lost sight of him.
Officers from Tanglin Police Division eventually established the man's identity, and he was arrested near Lor 1 Toa Payoh on Tuesday (Aug 26) at about 1.50 pm.
The suspect will be charged in court on Thursday, and faces up to 7 years' jail.
