46-year-old P Mageswaran has been charged with the murder of a 62-year-old woman. In a separate case, 35-year-old Tan Beng Kim was jailed for operating a brothel.
SINGAPORE: A man has been charged with the murder of a 62-year-old woman.
46-year-old P Mageswaran is accused of causing the death of Madam Kanne Lactmy on December 9, between 8.34am and 12.27pm.
Police on Wednesday said they had been alerted to the incident at Block 875 Yishun Street 81 at about 12.27pm last Monday.
The victim was sent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead later the same day at about 1.30pm.
If found guilty, Mageswaran faces the death penalty.
In a separate case, a 35-year-old man who ran a prostitution syndicate was sentenced on Thursday to five months' jail for operating a brothel, living off on the earnings of the prostitutes and harbouring some of them.
Tan Beng Kim admitted to setting up the prostitution business known as "Loveseed Club" with four others, aged between 22 and 50.
They would recruit the prostitutes from Thailand and negotiate contracts with them.
The offences were committed between February and December 2012.
