Miss Universe Singapore shares importance of having a global perspective

Singapore Institute of Management undergraduate Rathi Menon beat 11 other contestants and will represent Singapore at the International Miss Universe pageant later this year.

SINGAPORE: The Miss Universe Singapore pageant title was clinched by 23-year-old Rathi Menon this year. The Singapore Institute of Management undergraduate beat 11 other contestants, and was chosen by a panel of judges that included local fashion guru Daniel Boey and supermodel Junita Simon.

Ms Menon believes that gaining a global perspective will give her an edge when representing Singapore in the future. "I think it is not only about the outlook when it comes to being a woman. Being a woman is all about beauty and brains, so it is good to not only know what is going around in Singapore. There are so many things that are happening around the world.”

The final stage of the pageant was held at the Shangri-La Hotel last Friday (Aug 22). As the winner, she received a cash prize of S$5,000 and diamond earrings valued at over S$30,000, among other things. Ms Menon will be representing Singapore at the International Miss Universe pageant in December this year.
