More Primary One spaces in newer towns

Overall, Primary One spaces available next year are comparable to those in 2014. The number of places available in some newer towns, however, saw an increase.

SINGAPORE: The Primary One (P1) cohort size for 2015 is similar to that of 2014. With 187 primary schools to choose from, the total number of vacancies for 2015 is 42,460. This is slightly less than the 42,580 vacancies offered for 2014.

There was, however, an increase in vacancies in the newer towns. A spokesperson from MOE said the number of P1 places provided in these schools is based on the projected demand in the area where the schools are located and the capacity of the schools.

For 2015, 90 more places are being offered in both Pasir Ris and Punggol and 120 more places will be offered in Sengkang. In Pasir Ris, more places were offered at Coral Primary School, Loyang Primary School and Meridian Primary School, while schools with more places in Punggol include Greendale Primary School, Punggol Green Primary School and Punggol View Primary School.

In Sengkang, four primary schools offered more places, including Anchor Green Primary School and Springdale Primary School and North Vista Primary School and North Spring Primary School. This is an increase of 4.6% compared to 2014.

Parents can register their children from next month, and for the first time, every primary school will set aside 20 places each for Phase 2B and 2C before the start of the registration exercise.
