SINGAPORE: Motorists have been advised to service their vehicles regularly at authorised workshops and have a fire extinguisher handy.
That's the message from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) after yet another vehicle caught fire on Friday.
A goods van burst into flames along the AYE near the South Buona Vista Road exit at about 2.05pm.
Civil defence officers quickly put out the fire.
No one was injured but the SCDF subsequently issued a fire-safety advisory.
Besides regular servicing, SCDF said motorists should check their vehicles visually for any oil leakage.
Vehicles should also be equipped with a fire extinguisher, so that an initial fire can be put out before it spreads.
If smoke is detected when the vehicle is on the road, motorists should pull over, turn off the ignition and evacuate.
