Ms Lee Bee Wah and Mr Alex Chan have agreed to come onboard as advisors to incumbent Lee Kok Choy's team for the Singapore Swimming Association’s upcoming election.
SINGAPORE: A former national swimmer and a Member of Parliament will be among the senior advisors for incumbent Lee Kok Choy's team for the Singapore Swimming Association's (SSA) upcoming elections, a member of Mr Lee’s team announced on Thursday (June 12).
Singapore Table Tennis Association President and Member of Parliament Lee Bee Wah, along with ex-national swimmer and former chairman of the Singapore Sports Council Alex Chan, have agreed to “bring their expertise” to the team, said Mr Oon Jin Teik, who is vying for the position of Secretary-General on Mr Lee’s team. A National Sports Association leader, who is yet to be named, will also come on board as a senior advisor.
Their counsel was needed to provide the “right checks and balance”, he added.
According to Mr Oon, other advisory roles have also been brought in to oversee the areas of high performance, sports psychology, and nutrition and sponsorship ideas.
The former CEO of the Singapore Sports Council, Mr Oon is running for the post of SSA’s Secretary-General against Nominated Member of Parliament Eugene Tan, who is on Singapore Bowling Federation President Jessie Phua's slate.
Ms Phua is up against Mr Lee – who is SSA's current Secretary-General – for the association's top post. Former swim queen Joscelin Yeo will contest for the post of Vice-President (Swimming) in Mr Lee's team, which will also include water polo veteran Samuel Wong. Ms Phua has former swimmer Mark Chay and water polo duo Samson Tan and Lau Kum Weng on her slate.
