SINGAPORE: A new pedestrian bridge linking the Merlion Park and the waterfront promenade in front of Esplanade is expected to be opened to the public by April next year.
Construction of the bridge started in November 2012 and the last segment of the structure was installed in the early morning of National Day (Aug 9). The final phase of the project will involve installation of tiles, railings and lighting.
The bridge will be officially opened in November next year (2015) as part of the SG50 celebrations. It will form part of next year's Jubilee Walk which will cover historic locations in the Civic District and the Marina Bay area.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) said the bridge will enhance the 3.5km waterfront loop near the Esplanade to connect visitors to attractions around Marina Bay.
