New Judge appointed to Supreme Court

Judicial Commissioner Tan Siong Thye was named a judge of the High Court of Singapore by President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Tuesday (July 1).

SINGAPORE: Judicial Commissioner Tan Siong Thye was appointed to the position of High Court Judge by President Tony Tan Keng Yam on Tuesday (July 1).

The Supreme Court of Singapore said in a statement that Judicial Commissioner Tan will assume the position effective Tuesday following a swearing-in ceremony at the Istana. He has held the position of Judicial Commissioner since Oct 1, 2013.

In addition, Judge Steven Chong Horng Siong was also sworn in as a High Court judge. He was re-appointed to the position from June 25, 2014, according to the statement.

With the two appointments, the Supreme Court will have a total of 14 judges and four Judicial Commissioners, the statement added.
