SINGAPORE: Starting this year, parents of all Primary 1 students will receive a parent-child activity book to help them reinforce the values and routines their children will learn in school.
The book contains tips and activities to encourage meaningful conversations between parents and their child, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said. The book is designed to reinforce values and routines that children will practice in school, the ministry explained.
On Monday morning (Jan 4), the first day of school for the new year, Acting Minister for Education (Schools) Ng Chee Meng was at Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School for the roll-out of the book.
Speaking to the media during his visit, Mr Ng said most parents he spoke to found the activity book useful.
"I will encourage parents to have an involved role in their children's education together with their teachers., form a symbiotic relationship so that we can teach our children holistically in knowledge and values," he said.
Mr Ng added that the MOE will also look into fostering an environment for children to learn about the importance of innovation.
Parliamentary Secretary for Education Assoc Prof Faishal Ibrahim was also present at the school on Monday morning. Copies of the book have been distributed to all 190 primary schools, the Education Ministry added.
