Parents have been queuing overnight to register their children at EtonHouse International's E-Bridge Pre-School, one of five preschool anchor operators.
SINGAPORE: Registrations have opened for places at two EtonHouse International's E-Bridge Pre-School centres in the Rivervale area.
And, according to the school, some parents were in the queue as early as 6.30pm on Friday.
E-Bridge Pre-School is one of five preschool anchor operators, and is offering about 300 vacancies in total at three locations.
All will open in the third quarter of this year.
Kavitha Rajahendran and her husband started queuing at 1am. Their 20-month old daughter currently attends pre-school at Upper Thomson Road, and with the family living at Rivervale Crescent -- that's a little bit too far.
"Distance plays a very important role for my daughter; she gets some time to rest and wake up slightly later in the morning and get to school feeling fresh if she goes somewhere nearby.
"I also believe that enough sleep would be beneficial for her well-being, as she will not fall ill so often."
Another parent is putting his eight-month old daughter in the wait-list for pre-nursery next year.
"We just want to confirm (getting on) the waiting list so we can get the centre, because it is quite near to my house," said Sky Cheng.
According to the school, about 100 children were registered within the first hour.
And at closing at 3pm on Saturday, the school had received over 170 applications for the two centres in the Rivervale area.
"People have been queuing since 6.30pm the night before," said Ng Gim Choo, Group Managing Director, EtonHouse International.
"And there were already more than 100 people queuing at 7.30 this morning (Saturday); I suppose it's very encouraging for us.
"I think there are a lot of young families in this area, and there are not sufficient childcare centres to cater to their needs."
E-Bridge Pre-School says parents will be notified of the results by the end of next week
