SINGAPORE: People's Action Party Secretary-General Lee Hsien Loong on Thursday (Jan 28) sent a congratulatory letter to the Communist Party of Vietnam's General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, following his successful re-election at the 12th Communist Party of Vietnam National Congress.
Mr Lee, who is Prime Minister of Singapore, noted the Congress took place at an "important juncture" as Vietnam is becoming more integrated with the global economy. The five-year Socio-Economic Development Plan adopted by the Congress will set the direction for the next stage of Vietnam's development, Mr Lee stated.
"I am confident that Vietnam will continue to develop and prosper under your leadership," he added.
PM Lee also highlighted Singapore's bilateral relations with Vietnam. "I am certain that the close ties of friendship and cooperation between our two countries will continue to strengthen in the years ahead," he said.
Mr Lee also wished Mr Trong good health and success, and sent his best wishes for the upcoming Vietnamese Tet New Year.
