Pioneer Generation Package will take care of elderly for "rest of their lives": Chan Chun Sing

Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing said the Pioneer Generation Package will take care of the elderly "for the rest of their lives", and give them a peace of mind.

SINGAPORE: Social and Family Development Minister Chan Chun Sing said the Pioneer Generation Package will take care of the elderly "for the rest of their lives", and give them a peace of mind.

He said: “The elements generally revolve around the healthcare sector. What we do for the healthcare sector will allow us to free up the resources to take care of other sectors. For example, what the elderly would otherwise be spending on their healthcare can be used for other purposes like transport or even housing.

“It is not an insignificant commitment because the amount of resources required is tremendous. But the fact that the government and the society are willing to make this gesture is a testimony to the kind of values we want to demonstrate for generations to come.”

Mr Chan said this at the re-opening of the market and food centre at Blk 112 Jalan Bukit Merah on Sunday morning.

The market was closed in March last year for upgrading.
