PM Lee congratulates new Turkish counterpart

Prime Minister Lee Hsieng Loong says he is confident Turkey will continue to "grow and prosper" under Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu's leadership.

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday (Aug 29) sent a letter of congratulations to Turkey's Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, following his appointment by Turkish President Tayyip the day before.

Mr Lee said Turkey had made great progress in the last decade, and is confident it will continue to grow under Mr Davutoglu's leadership. Mr Davutoglu has been Turkey's foreign minister since 2009.

Mr Lee's full letter is reproduced below:

Dear Prime Minister Davutoglu,

On behalf of the Government and people of Singapore, I warmly congratulate you on your appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey.

Turkey has made great progress in the last decade. I am confident that Turkey will continue to grow and prosper under your leadership.

As hubs in our respective regions, Singapore and Turkey are natural partners. There is great potential for collaboration in diverse areas between our two countries. I look forward to growing our ties and taking our relations forward for the mutual benefit of our two peoples.

I wish you every success in your new appointment and hope to meet you again soon.
