SINGAPORE: Dozens of historical newsreels of Singapore, from both pre- and post-independence, are now available online.

This comes after the release of over 85,000 archived videos on YouTube.

It is an initiative by multimedia resource company British Pathe, which has uploaded videos dating back to 1896.

The collection features a significant number of videos which give a rich account of Singapore's history.

These include footage of Singapore's elections in the 1950s, the surrender of the Japanese in 1945, and street scenes from as early as the 1920s.

Currently, the video with the most number of views is one promoting Singapore as an ideal destination for British tourists.

The videos are available for viewing on this website.
