Work to widen the Pan-Island Expressway between Clementi Ave 6 and Adam Road is now complete, says the Land Transport Authority. Another stretch further west will be done by the end of next year.
SINGAPORE: The widening of the 5.8-kilometre stretch of the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) between Clementi Ave 6 and Adam Road has been completed, with an extra lane added on both sides of the expressway, the Land Transport Authority announced on Thursday (Aug 7).
Apart from the extra lanes, the project also included the structural expansion of the Eng Neo, Chantek and Anak Bukit Flyovers, said the agency.
"As the main expressway link for traffic between the eastern and western ends of the island, the widened PIE will improve the travel experience, especially for motorists living in the western part of Singapore. Congestion is expected to ease, especially during morning and evening peak hours," the LTA said.
Another stretch of the PIE - between Clementi Ave 6 and Bukit Batok East Ave 3 - is also being enhanced. A pair of flyovers to provide dedicated access to traffic exiting the PIE (east-bound) to Clementi Ave 6, and traffic entering the PIE (west-bound) from Clementi Ave 6, is being constructed, the LTA said.
Similarly, traffic entering the PIE (east-bound) from Bukit Batok East Ave 3 and traffic exiting PIE (west-bound) to Bukit Batok East Ave 3 will be able to use the connecting slip roads exclusively, it added.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2015, LTA said.
