SINGAPORE: The refurbished markets and food centres at Block 6 Tanjong Pagar Plaza and Block 44 Holland Drive will reopen for business on Wednesday.
Stalls at the two centres will resume business progressively as they complete setting up.
The two hawker centres are reopening after 10 months of upgrading, which was carried out under the hawker centres upgrading programme of the National Environment Agency (NEA).
In a statement on Tuesday, NEA said the public can look forward to a more spacious, pleasant and hygienic dining environment at the upgraded centres.
The seating capacity at the refreshment areas of both centres has been increased.
To improve ventilation at the centres, all cooked food stalls there have also been equipped with new mechanical exhaust systems.
Market slab stalls have also been re-configured and passageways widened for better movement of goods and human traffic.
In addition, space has been set aside within the upgraded centres to support the implementation of tray-return in the future.
Other enhancements include improved fire safety features and upgraded toilet facilities, including handicapped-friendly features and diaper-changing counters.
Green features have also been built into the refurbished centres.
For instance, to conserve electricity, skylights have been installed in the centres to supplement the existing lighting with natural light during daytime.
NEA said the designs of the upgraded centres were decided after close consultation with the respective upgrading working committees.
The committees included representatives from residents' committees, shopkeepers and stallholders associations, and town councils.
