Residents do the 'Nanyang Wave'

Residents in Jurong West have come up with a novel way to celebrate the nation's birthday.

SINGAPORE: It is three weeks to the nation's birthday and residents in the Nanyang constituency in Jurong West are already in the mood to celebrate. They have come up with, what they call, the 'Nanyang Wave'.

In their own creative spin of the Kallang Wave, residents across seven blocks of flats came together to unfurl their Singapore flags at the same time. Runners -- comprising new citizens, youth and members of religious groups -- ran past the blocks of flats as the flags unfolded.

They were also joined by Member of Parliament Alvin Yeo, who is also the Grassroots Adviser to the Nanyang GROs. At the end of the run, they sang the national anthem and recited the Singapore pledge together.
