SINGAPORE: A man from Singapore has won the chance to dine with legendary investor and billionaire Warren Buffett. Andy Chua put in the highest bid of US$2.17 million in the annual charity online auction, where the winner gets invited to lunch with the third richest man in the world.

According to Forbes' world billionaires list, Mr Buffett's net worth is over US$65 billion.

The charity auction on eBay started on June 1 and ended on June 6, 7.30PM (PDT).

Mr Chua's bid is more than double the US$1 million put in by last year's top bidder. The record bid of US$3,456,789 was set in 2012 by an anonymous bidder.

Mr Chua can invite seven friends for the lunch with Mr Buffett at New York City's Smith & Wollensky steakhouse on a mutually agreed upon date.

The auction, started in 2000, benefits the Glide Foundation, which provides meals, healthcare and housing support to the poor and homeless in San Francisco. The auction has helped raise nearly US$16 million for Glide since 2000.
