SINGAPORE: The inaugural Campus Game Fest kicked off on Saturday. It is the first large-scale game, arts, media and edutainment event for youth.
It is organised by the Institute of Technical Education, Singapore Cybersports and Online Gaming Association, and the People's Association Youth Movement.
To kick-start the three-day event, Acting Culture, Community and Youth Minister Lawrence Wong joined some 230 people to set the Singapore record for the most number of people playing the online game - Candy Crush - at the same time.
The event, at ITE College Central, also features a mobile social game tournament and local comic art talent showcase.
Ang Hak Seng, Chief Executive Director of People’s Association, said: "It's to provide a safe environment for the youth to enjoy online gaming but we also like to take this opportunity to inculcate in our youth the importance of cyber well-being, such as the danger of cyber addiction. And through these youth we want to reach out to their parents and the community at large."
Eric Chua, chairman of PAYM Central Youth Council, said: "Usually you play Candy Crush alone, either at home or sometimes in the office. But here sometimes we see 230 participants playing Candy Crush together, at one time. I think that's a really unique aspect of this event."
