The Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth will be in Nanjing from Aug 15 to 19 to cheer on the 18 athletes competing in eight sports at the Games.
SINGAPORE: The Youth Olympic Games athletes from Singapore will have another supporter on their side when competing in Nanjing, China, from Aug 16 onwards: Minister of State for Culture, Community and Youth Sam Tan.
Singapore will send 18 athletes to the second YOG in Nanjing, which will be held from Aug 16 to Aug 28, and Mr Tan said in a statement on Thursday (Aug 14) that he is looking forward to seeing them "shine".
"The YOG will be where sporting stars are born, and I look forward to seeing our Team Singapore athletes do their best, and shine in this international sporting event. I hope that the athletes will also take this opportunity to forge new friendships with their peers, who will accompany them in their journey towards excellence," he said.
Team Singapore will be competing in Aquatics (Swimming and Diving), Athletics, Badminton, Gymnastics, Sailing, Shooting, Table Tennis and Triathlon.
Mr Tan will be accompanied by officials from MCCY and Sport Singapore, according to the statement.
