Saving Gaia: MediaCorp goes green to celebrate World Environment Day

The annual Saving Gaia initiative has returned on Thursday (June 5) as MediaCorp celebrates World Environment Day.

SINGAPORE – The annual Saving Gaia initiative returned to MediaCorp platforms on Thursday (June 5) to coincide with World Environment Day, renewing the company’s commitment to raise public awareness of environmental issues and going green.

The logos of MediaCorp’s key platforms will adopt a green hue for 24 hours, the symbolic colour for the environment. The temporary colour change will be reflected in MediaCorp’s popular television channel logos, logos on websites, and social media sites.

Since 2012, the annual Saving Gaia campaign has been putting the spotlight on increasingly pressing environmental issues. MediaCorp’s popular tune "Save my World" resonates well with people of all ages. This year, the song is given a new tempo and the music video makes use of animated characters to bring forth the green message, appealing to both the young and the young at heart; reminding everyone to do his/her bit to preserve a greener earth for the future generation.

In June, MediaCorp television, radio, print and online platforms will also feature "green" content to educate and spread the green message:

This epic four-part series explores how scientists, artists, architects and naturalists are creating a synergy between city and nature, in New York, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Paris. And in the process, developing the ingredients for tomorrow’s world.

Taking the environmental message further, MediaCorp plans to organise a series of green-related activities which include a coastal clean-up event sometime this year. Watch this space for more details on how you can participate in this event.

World Environment Day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 to mark the opening of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. It is held each year on June 5 and is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations (UN) stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and how to achieve a sustainable future for all. This year’s theme and message is “Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level”.
