The Singapore Indian Development Association has appointed Mr Kumaran Barathan, currently the Chief Executive of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, as its new chief executive officer.
SINGAPORE: The Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA) has appointed Mr Kumaran Barathan, currently the Chief Executive of the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI), as its new chief executive officer.
The appointment will take effect on July 1.
Mr Barathan will succeed Mr T Raja Segar, who was SINDA's CEO over the last five years and is moving on to pursue other interests.
In a statement, SINDA said Mr Barathan has had a distinguished career at the Economic Development Board and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR).
He joined SICCI as CEO in 2013.
Mr Barathan said that he looks forward to his new appointment at SINDA.
"I have always considered social and economic upward mobility through education as a lever," he said.
"I hope my experiences in various fields such as public administration, research and with the business sector will enable me to work with community closely, especially our youth to develop the essential skills required for success in the future.
"I also intend to carry on building on the success of the predecessors -- to ensure that SINDA remains relevant to Singapore Indians and the larger community in Singapore, and continues to work closely with community partners and other organisations."
