SINGAPORE: The Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) celebrated its 40th anniversary at the Raffles City Convention Centre on Wednesday evening.
President Tony Tan Keng Yam was the Guest-of-Honour at the event.
As part of the celebrations, Dr Tan presented sports awards to outstanding athletes.
Also gracing the event was Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong.
Mr Wong said, "We want sports to be inclusive with opportunities for all to participate. We want all Singaporeans to be able to experience the benefits of an active and healthy lifestyle through sports."
He also said that Singapore intends to send its largest contingent to the 8th ASEAN Para Games, which will be held in Singapore next year.
Team Singapore fielded 52 athletes at the 7th edition of the Para Games in Myanmar in January 2014.
Mr Wong said the aim is to double that number in 2015.
The 2015 ASEAN Para Games will be held in December 2015, and is expected to feature 10 to 12 sports involving some 1,300 athletes.
