SINGAPORE: In response to media queries on the announcement of a coup in Thailand on Thursday, Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) expressed "grave concern" over the latest developments in Thailand, and hopes that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible.

An MFA spokesman said in a statement that it hopes all parties involved will exercise restraint and work towards a positive outcome, and avoid violence and bloodshed.

The spokesman added that Thailand is an important regional country and a key member of ASEAN, and that prolonged uncertainties will set back the country and the region as a whole.

"As a close friend of Thailand, we hope that the situation will return to normal as soon as possible," said MFA in its statement.
